As I re-read the “Global Wind Report 2024” published by GWEC (Global Wind Energy Council) these days as we enter the new year, I realized once again how similar the challenges faced all over the world are, especially in trying to reach the renewable energy production target that needs to be established or converted by 2030 in order to reduce the effects of climate change in line with the targets announced and accepted at COP28.
The challenges stated by private sector stakeholders, investors and financial institutions in every major session in our country are the same all over the world and in every country. Very long and sometimes deadlocked permit processes, inadequate energy transmission line infrastructure, problems in providing financing and high interest rates, problems experienced in the supply chain and of course environmental and social impact are the most important factors that challenge new wind investments.
Although governments on a global scale aggressively support this change, in practice, the main goal of protecting nature and the climate is not causing the works to take place at the expected speed in terms of investment and construction.
Still, in the short term, although not on the scale planned until 2030, it seems that there will be significant progress and new projects in the wind sector both in the world and in Turkey. The effects of the pandemic have now completely diminished and the renewable energy sector has started to accelerate rapidly and return to its good old days.
Below is a summary graph from the report I mentioned at the beginning. It is really a simple and beautiful summary of all the positive and negative aspects. I recommend those who are interested and those who have not read it yet to read the report, even if it is a little late. It explains in detail and with good data what the global route is in the wind sector.
The whole world is trying to find a solution to the issues that are considered difficult by investors in our country, and time will show us whether we can reach the days when all these problems are solved with more sustainable ideas and methods.
